傳達技巧工作坊(一)

Through authentic models of effective communication demonstrated by TED Talks, this course leads students to build English listening/speaking proficiency, critical thinking skills, and collaborative mindset needed to achieve academic and personal success. Aside from the lecture sessions and in-class activities conducted based on the textbook, there are three major components in this course: 1. Weekly pop quizzes on (A) the Monday edition of CNN Student News (http://edition.cnn.com/studentnews/) and (B) the assigned TED Talk (www.ted.com) 2. 2 mini debates (topics to be announced in class) 3. Final group project: At the end of this term, students will collaborate in small groups and produce TED-esque speeches (15-20 minutes long) by addressing social issues of their interest. To complete this final project, students will learn how to cite and analyze sources, work as a team, and meet with the instructor. Ideally, we will divide the whole class into groups of three. Each group will find sources related to their topics, design slides, and speak in front of the whole class in the final week. Each presentation is followed by a brief Q&A session (5-10 minutes). Throughout the term, we will highlight some crucial elements in a presentation.
