概述

The course is organized to help students assess and build basic consecutive interpretation skills. Class formats will include interpretation practice on teacher-selected speeches / interviews, and presentations given by students. For the presentations, students are to deliver in Chinese, and the presentation is to be interpreted into English by the non-presenting students. Students will interpret in class and receive feedback from the instructor and non-interpreting students. Please record your own interpretation during the midterm and the final exams, and type a transcript of your interpretation along with a reflection and evaluation of your performance. Students are expected to practice rigorously on a daily basis. Homework: In addition to: 1) keeping up on current events through daily reading of Chinese and English newspapers and magazines, 2) performing daily practice of E to C / C to E consecutive interpretation, and 3) performing research and preparation for in-class presentations and interpretation, students are also expected to compose news summaries, compile glossaries, and hand in reflections of interpretation performance and feedback to classmates.
