概述

長期以來對於性別的認識與學術討論,或多或少從生物既存的事實,以及稍為固定的二元分劃的性別藍圖進行。以生物為基礎的想法預設了兩個性別:男性與女性。以及,從男性與女性的各自的生理狀態與特性,所應該長成的社會性別、性別角色與性別氣質等等。隨著性別二元分劃的既定意涵,男性與女性的結合、建立家庭、繁衍後代,再生產社會的性別分工、規範與性別意識形態,烙印在各式各樣西方與現代化的社會構成與各種制度當中,也深刻影響著人們對生活規劃、想像、幸福與成功、圓滿的感知、感受以及給予的定義。雖然我們逐漸意識到性別的文化建構面向,以及因而衍生的個人空間乃至於經濟或政治的體制。但建立在生物二元性的性別構想,於西方近現代成為性別規劃以及由之而來的社會制度建立的最重要基礎。然而,從諸多跨文化的民族誌材料及其研究成果發現,並不是所有的文化都分享這個本質論者(essentialist)的假定。甚至,西方社會也並非全然接受這樣一種性別體制。近年來學者強調性別角色的歷史與社會建構的論述取向,以及對性區別界線的重新檢視,都在說明性別二元與其生物性基礎之宣稱,常常無法回應特定社會文化中性別多元多樣的現象與事實。基於上述幾項觀察,本課程主要提供族群、文化以及性別於特定時空脈絡中的多元互動,以及「性/別」構想、建制與實踐如何在歷史、社會與政治經濟以及勞動形式與遷徙、離散等等作用力的交會之下,產生的轉變與轉化的現象。本課程同時將從跨文化視野對不同社會的性/別文化,進行理解與分析。課程重點之一在於觀察性、性別、性取向、男性(的)、女性(的)、同性(的)與第三性作為一種族群文化範疇/類別,如何在社會與其互動以及時空流變中呈現出來,並(重新)構築社會的各種關係。課程重點之二則聚焦特定族群在不同的文化條件與社會情境脈絡,如何建構各自的性/別系統,運作其性/別意識形態,展現多元的性/別文化現象。
