Overview: This course focuses on the fundamental and advanced aspects of management of high-tech start-up with theories, practices, industry analyses, and case studies. It is consciously designed with a technological and global outlook since this orientation in many ways highlights the significant emerging trends in strategic management. The course is intended to provide the students with a pragmatic approach that will guide the formulation and implementation of start up a high-tech business. Students are expected to think and behave with creativity and execution capability as successful entrepreneurs after the trainings from this course.
The students are required to read assignments per week. During class, students discuss the readings and apply the concepts to practices. The instructor will also guide practice cases to supplement the text readings. The major objective of this course is to develop students’ essential senses of entrepreneurship, business startup and venture capital. Late work and unexcused absences can result in the lower grade.
Participation in class (30%); Presentation and discussion (30%); Projects (40%) Projects: 1. Students will work on discrete projects of researches on start-up cases individually as the midterm project. 2. Students will work in teams (typically three or four people) on discrete projects of business plan and evaluation report of other teams’ business plans as the final project.
