The objective of this course is developing the knowledge and skills of students to comprehend, critique, and conduct statistical mechanical analysis in the researches of biological, chemical, and physical sciences. In addition to the underlying principles, I will also illustrate how this theoretical framework can be applied to understand the behaviors of molecular systems. Classical thermodynamics will contribute to the first 30% of the course and the rest 70% will be on statistical mechanics.
General physics I and general chemistry I, II. However, basic concepts on thermodynamics are the assumed knowledge.
