This course is an integrated 4-skill (listening, speaking, reading, & writing) curriculum with a focus on listening and speaking. This course will address reading and paragraph writing while supporting the communicative skills addressed in the first semester. In this course, students will: 1. Develop critical reading skills 2. Engage in reflection on readings 3. Apply insights gained from readings 4. Orally paraphrase and summarize texts, and reflect on the texts in oral discussion 5. Write complete paragraphs with topic sentences, relevant supporting details, transition words, and concluding sentences 6. Continue to develop listening and speaking skills
1. Syllabus and grading scheme are subject to change and are either announced in class or via e3's announcement or email. 2. Please turn in homework on time. Late homework will not be graded for credit. 3. Full attendance and active engagement in group discussions is integral to the success of the course. 4. Dozing off or without a book will affect your grade. 5. Unexcused absences will affect your attendance mark.
1. Attendance: 10% 2. Participation: 10% 3. Midterm: 20% 4. Final: 20% 5. Passage Writing: 5% (one paragraph assignment of 170-200 words) 6. GEPT in-class and 3 online practice tests: 10% 7. Self-study stamps on VOD passport (3 stamps for round tables or 10 stamps for the other types ): 5% 8. Homework, in-class activities, and quizzes: 20%
