概述

This course aims to advance students’ listening and writing skills. Students will further develop listening skills (e.g., identifying main ideas, details, making inferences, and note-taking) through less simplified and authentic listening materials. Students will also develop writing skills through a variety of interactive activities. By the end of the course, students will learn to: 1. comprehend listening materials which cover more specialized or sophisticated topics. 2. identify and analyze points of view, arguments, or implicit information in the listening material. 3. learn to summarize and respond to listening materials in proper writing (e.g., a summary, reflection passage, or short essay). 4. continue to build paragraph and essay writing skills.

教學方式

Requirements & Rules: 學生請假系統:http://stuoffcourse.nctu.edu.tw Requirements & Rules: * The instructor reserves the right to change the syllabus when necessary. * Full attendance and active engagement in class discussions is integral to the success of the course. Late arrivals and/or unexcused absences will affect your grade. * Please turn in homework on time, late homework will not be graded for credit. This course is student-centered and uses a communicative approach. This means you will be working together with your classmates and sharing information to improve your listening and writing skills. Activities and assignments will begin with a preview of topic and vocabulary, move on to listening skills and writing strategies, and lead to a discussion of the topic to check accuracy and comprehension. Participation: You are required to read any material before coming to class. Active participation in classroom discussion and activities is also expected. Assigned homework will be collected and / or checked in class. In addition, announcements, handouts, and homework will be posted on e3 (http://dcpc.nctu.edu.tw/). No late work will be accepted and no make-up tests will be given unless it is for an official reason with prior approval. One of the ways to improve listening comprehension it to discuss what you have heard with your peers. Talking with other students can help you better understand the information. Each time we have group discussion there will be 3 duties to be performed (Leader, Note Taker, and Presenter) while the remaining group students will be group members. Throughout the semester, you must do each task at least once. Attendance: If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what was done in class that day. You are responsible for all assignments. Absence is not an excuse for not handing in an assignment. You must also register your absence within ONE WEEK on the school's leave request website (http://stuoffcourse.nctu.edu.tw). Every absence will lower your attendance grade, and being late will reduces your attendance grade as well. More than 3 unexcused absences may cause you to fail the course. Exams: The mid-term will be a written exam which will focus on the material covered in class. The final will be an oral exam and will focus on students' ability to analyze and discuss the topics covered in class.
