Course Description and Aims This course provides an introduction to the theories and principles applicable to English language teaching. The course also provides opportunities for peer teaching, observing EFL classrooms, tutoring or teaching English to non-native English speakers. This course aims to: 1. Introduce students to the theoretical principles that underpin approaches to English language teaching 2. Familiarize students with teaching methodology 3. Introduce and practice lesson planning 4.Proffer students chances to peer teaching
1. Attendance: * Punctuality is of great importance in this course. If you miss more than 2 classes without proper personal excuses, you are unlikely to pass. 2. In-class Participation and discussion (30%): * Ponder over the discussion questions at the end of each chapter as we may discuss them in class. *Your active involvement, either individual or group, is highly valued and concerned. 3. Online Report & Feedback (20%) *Join the discussion group”英文教材教法2017 Fall, NCCU” on Facebook. *Group Report: Your group will be required to post at least 3 links based on the assigned topics and summarize the post, one week prior to the designated week. * Individual Feedback: Each student will give comments on the methods based on the each link/post by listing 3 pieces of useful/impressive information by Wednesday of the designated week. 4. Classroom Observation Report (20%) *You will attend 3 open houses and observe teaching conducted by experienced teachers. You will hand in the reports no later than 3 days after the speech. Each report accounts for 5% of your score. You are encouraged to attend other open house events and write reports to win bonus credits. 5. Speech Report (20%) *You will listen to 2 keynote speeches in this class and will hand in the reports no later than 3 days after the speech. Each report accounts for 5% of your score. You are encouraged to listen to more TESOL related speech and write reports to win bonus credits. 6. Learning Journal (5%) * You will write feedbacks/ reflections on your learning on a B5-sized notebook in class. 7. Porfolio (5%) *At the end of the semester, glean all the academic works (online report, feedback, classroom observation report, speech report, etc.) and upload them to the designated Google Drive
