This course introduces all the building blocks for operating public transit agencies in terms of transportation engineering, transportation economics, public finance, and public policy.
There are three types of work you will do during the semester: news briefing, homework, and a term project. Students are encouraged to work with others in the class. The maximum group size is 3. 1. News briefing (10 minutes at the start of every class on Thursday): Each team is expected to brief the class news/recent issues on public transit about 1 to 2 times throughout the semester. Please coordinate your time slots with the TA. 2. Homework: To be determined. 3. Term project: The term project involves identifying improvement opportunities for a public transit agency, including all levels of governments and public transit corporations. Each team has to choose a public transit agency and get the approval of the instructor no later than March 17th before the class.
Homework: 10%; news briefing: 15%; midterm exam: 15%; term project: 30%; final exam: 15%; class participation: 15% (students are encouraged to ask and answer questions, contribute information, and express their views on subject matter).
