總體經濟學

This course will study the economy as a whole dealing with economic data, behavior and theory at the aggregate level of the economy. First, we will define and analyze what kind of data macroeconomists study, such as national income, inflation and unemployment. The second part of the course will be devoted to growth theory, trying to explain why some countries grow the way they do in the long run. Third, we will spend time studying the origins of economic fluctuations and the theories developed to understand them. Finally, the fourth part will give a brief exploration of macroeconomics policies and the microeconomics behind the modern approach to macroeconomics. The course is being offered at time of significant macroeconomic uncertainty in Taiwan and world-wide. Throughout the course, observations of macroeconomic phenomenon and policies in Taiwan will also be addressed. Although the course is primarily a theory course, it utilizes discussions and interactions among students to enrich students’ interests and abilities in learning related subjects.
