概述

Pursuing the detail understandings of light-matter interaction in terms of energy and time are the central intellectual activities of modern physical chemistry. Although the concentration change of photo-excited products can be described by a simple differential equation depended on time, the underling disciplines about “how, why and when” are the major concerns of this course. This course aims to provide recent advance in photophysics and photochemistry in graduate level. Recently, energy participations (internal and translational) of photochemical reaction products have been determined on the quantum state-to-state basis. On the other hand, time-resolved kinetics is now reaching the period of molecular vibration (femtosecond) and electronic transition (attosecond). Two topics will be presented in this course. First, briefly describe the molecular spectroscopy methods, which serve as a probe of photochemical reaction dynamics. Second, exhibit various exotic features when light-interacting with molecules and their applications to follow and select the reaction pathways. Advanced materiel and recent developments will be presented following the basic introduction in each topic.
