It is about how an interaction designer might start with a single idea and then continually evolving, shaping, and developing it. Prototyping is the activity of exploring a design space and developing design ideas. The common prototyping techniques include scribble sketching, photo traces, paper prototype, storyboards with a series of scenes, a PowerPoint slide show, cardboard mock-up, video prototype simulating user scenarios, or digital prototype with limited functionality. In this course, we will explore issues surrounding the practices of constructing various prototypes (e.g., sketch, photo traces, paper prototype, foam core mockup, PowerPoint slide show, video prototype, digital prototype) as well as the discussion of what user data can be collected, and what evaluation approaches (cognitive walkthroughs, heuristic evaluation, user testing, etc.) can be applied by these prototypes .
1. Intro to Human Computer Interaction 2. User Experience Design
As a general rule, each of our 150-minute class sessions will be divided as follows: * Lecture/discussion / Presentation: 80 minutes * Break: 10 minutes * Lab session: 90 minutes Lab. sessions Each week class will have at a studio-based lab session where the students will get to familiar with production tools and software. Students will not only practice production techniques, but will also discuss their design for improvements.
All assignment geared towards providing students with hands-on prototyping practice opportunities. Individual Assignments: 1. Assignment 1: Business Card design (5%) 2. Assignment 2: Poster: Photo traces, UI flow, Description drawing (10%) 3. Assignment 3: User scenario animation (15%) Group Projects: 1. Project 1: Participatory Design workshop - Paper Prototype, foam core prototype, and Design idea (20%) 2. Project 2: Usability test report – Digital mockup (20%) 3. Project 3: Interaction Prototype (30%)
