1. Some recent intercultural and international theatre productions & film adaptations are explored, such as Tadashi Suzuki's "La Dame aux Camelias," Robert Wilson's "Orlando" and Zhang Yimou's "Turandot." 2. Under the Intercultural orientation in the 21 century, this course aims to teach the students some of the most influential western theaters, (such as Richard Schechner’s “Environmental Theater,” American Avant-garde Theatre, Robert Wilson’s “Theatre of Image,” Broadway, Off-Broadway & Off-Off Broadway, Intercultural Theatre, etc.) in the west at the contemporary time, from the twentieth century to the present. 3. In this course, the students will also read some important plays from different cultures and learn various kinds of theater performances, for example, the American musical Kiss Me Kate, the French director Peter Brook’s Mahabaharata, and some film adaptations, including Shakespeare's three plays "Hamlet,"“The Merchant of Venice” and “The Taming of the Shrew” adapted into two interesting modern films, Broadway musicals—“The Producers” and “Mama Mia.” 4. This seminar is designed for the students to understand and appreciate some of the important modern drama adapted into contemporary theatre performances and cinematic representation interpreted by Interculturalism.
