Freshman English II is an integrated 4-skill (listening, speaking, reading, & writing) language curriculum with a focus on reading and writing. This course will address reading and paragraph writing while supporting the communicative skills addressed in the first semester. In this course, students will: ? Develop critical reading skills, ? Engage in reflection on readings, ? Apply insights gained from readings, ? Orally paraphrase and summarize texts, and reflect on the texts in oral discussion, ? Write complete paragraphs with topic sentences, relevant supporting details, transition words, and concluding sentences, ? Continue to develop listening and speaking skills.
a) In-class participation: students will engage in in-class activities in pairs throughout the semester. b) Attendance: two points will be deducted for one absence for no reason, one for a sick leave or a leave for personal affairs, and no point deduction for school with a proof. c) Required writing assignments: choose topics from World Class units. These two assignments will be done in class on Weeks 10 and 17 respectively. d) Supplementary materials: 5 supplementary readings will be read in class throughout the semester. After each reading, students will work in pairs discussing and completing a worksheet. e) Students can access E3 for course schedule, announcements, or the answer key to the workbook.
10% Attendance 40% Midterm and final exams 10% Required writing assignments (2 paragraph assignments, a minimum of 200 words each) 15% Language enhancement activities, including 2 GEPT practice tests (one in class and one on-line, URL: http://140.113.9.17/ ( 學生帳號及密碼 : 學號 ), Freshman English (II): 新版5-7. The deadline is 6/13. 25% Other, including supplementary reading worksheets (10%), classroom activities (textbook assignments, quizzes, and speaking activities, 15%)
