Freshman English II is an integrated 4-skill (listening, speaking, reading, & writing) language curriculum with a focus on reading and writing. This course will address reading and paragraph writing while supporting the communicative skills addressed in the first semester. In this course, students will: 1. Develop critical reading skills, 2. Engage in reflection on readings, 3. Apply insights gained from readings, 4. Orally paraphrase and summarize texts, and reflect on the texts in oral discussion, 5. Write complete paragraphs with topic sentences, relevant supporting details, transition words, and concluding sentences, 6. Continue to develop listening and speaking skills.

1.Class attendance: Class attendance will be monitored and students who have more than 2 unexcused absences will be withdrawn from the class. 2. All students are expected to be quiet during the lecture and in the hall. Lack of attention and active participation or getting involved in small talks about unrelated matters in class will lead to a reduced grade for participation.

Attendance: 10% participation: 10% Midterm and final exams: 40% Required writing assignment: 5% (a passage of minimum 170-200 words each). GEPT related works: 15%, including one in-class practice test and four online practice tests (5%) and self-study stamps on VOD passport (5%) Group projects: 20% (written report + presentation + discussion)
