語言與人類心智

本課程以導讀語言學英文科普讀物的方式,預期達到以下目標: 1. 引領學生理解「認知科學革命」,以及此典範轉移(paradigm shift)如何影響當代的語言科學研究(=研究人類物種獨有的習得/運用語言的認知機制)。 2. 訓練學生建立有效率的英文閱讀習慣以及邏輯演繹思考能力。 3. 由於認知科學是一個需要密集跨領域合作的學門,學生在閱讀本學門科普文獻的過程中將了解在未來學術或是職涯發展橫向合作的重要性。 4. 帶領學生了解在現今認知科學與AI的發展下,為何Google工程師可以製作出可打敗人腦的下棋程式(如AlphaGo),卻無法發展出能夠像人類一樣自發且自然講話的電腦程式? (即認知科學界的名言:「人類認為困難的事情電腦容易解決,人類視為理所當然容易的事情電腦卻很難克服」)。

無需先修科目; 具備英文閱讀耐心、能力、與習慣。

A reading packet compiled by the instructor, details to be announced in the first class. Note: the weeks on the syllabus are idealized chunks of time. Not all have the same absolute duration. We will be somewhat flexible.
