The objective of the course is to provide an enduring, practical understanding of multimedia communications. The lecture focuses on how multimedia data are created and carried thru the network efficiently, as well as those key technologies and protocols which actually work in the real world. It puts more emphasis on media coding and protocols dedicated to multimedia communications, as well as various multimedia applications. We will also address up-to-date techniques in the ongoing research regarding different aspects in multimedia communications.
