A pre-seminar to the study of music from a cultural and comparative perspective.

Course homepage at E3 (http://dcpc.nctu.edu.tw). Every student is to take charge of one assigned reading and to complement it with a self-selected case study. By the Saturday evening before one's presentation, a 2,000-word draft paper must be uploaded to E3. All other participants must then submit a 300-word response by the evening before the day. Materials and detail instruction will be provided in E3.
Grading: Participation (40%): attendance and contribution to discussion (including response writings). Presentations (30%): orally, one ca. 50 minutes, one ca. 20 minutes (final). Paper (30%): ca. 3000-word critical/review essay (revised from the 2000-word draft).
