The main purpose of this course is to provide students with a broad introduction to the fundamentals of research methodology. Its focus is on the methodological and design issues in planning an experiment rather than on analyzing data. Students will learn how to identify problems to study, develop hypotheses and research questions, check for the validity and reliability of studies, and design research projects. Students will also learn about the importance of research ethics and current issues regarding reproducibility crisis in research. By the end of the course, students are expected to understand the key research processes and the principal activities and skills involved. They should also be able to approach journal articles with a more critical eye, and provide rationale for the approach used in their own research studies.
