Course Description and Aims This course provides an introduction to the theories and principles applicable to English language teaching, including a review of the communicative approach and other approaches used in language teaching. The course also provides opportunities for peer teaching, observing EFL classrooms, tutoring or teaching English to non-native English speakers. This course aims to: 1. Introduce students to the theoretical principles that underpin approaches to English language teaching. 2. Familiarize students with communicative approaches to instructional practice. 3. Introduce and practice lesson planning. 4. Provide students with chances of peer teaching.

1. Attendance (30%): * Punctuality is of great importance in this course. If you miss more than 2 classes without proper excuses, you are unlikely to pass. 2. Participation and group discussion (30%): * Your active involvement, either individual or group, is highly valued and concerned. 3. In-class presentation (20%): * You will be required to give presentations based on the assigned topics. For each method/approach, you need to videotape a real-world teaching session (which is done by you and your partner) incorporating the principles/central ideas of that particular method/approach and include the video as part of your presentation. Prior to the presentation day, hand in your lesson plan. 4. Teaching demonstration (20%): * You will be required to give teaching demonstrations at the end of the semester. Prior to the demonstration, hand in your lesson plan.
