The course objective is to provide students theoretical and practical grounding in the use of biomechanics in the working and living environments, in the design of work tasks and the workplace, and how to use biomechanical data in ergonomic interventions.
Applied Mechanics (Statics and Dynamics) - required
The instructor will lecture the fundamental material. Observations in real life working/living environment and in-class activities will be given to practice biomechanical evaluation skills taught in this course. In a few classes, students will be assigned reading of journal papers for discussion in the following classes. Review of homework and preview of exams will be given when necessary.
Homework: There will be homework sets throughout the semester. Homework is due at the beginning of class on the date listed in the homework assignment. There will be penalty on late homework. Exams: A mid-semester exam will be given, covering the first half of the course. The final exam will be cumulative, but will concentrate on the second half of the course. Project: In the term project, students will conduct a small team research project using the knowledge learned from this course, and prepare a project report and an oral presentation on a scheduled date.
