This is an advanced course of innovation analysis of emerging technologies. While emerging technologies offer a tremendous potential for future competitiveness in the global markets, technological innovation contributes to a large portion of world economic growth in the 2nd decade of the 21st century. Strategically speaking, different technologies offer various levels of future prospects for growth, and different innovation strategy is required to capitalize on technology development. According to literature, there are four pillars for in technology innovation, namely, strategic, future trends in global markets, implementation scheme, and organization to carry out the development. As such, this course is designed to teach students the most promising technologies for future growth, and innovation analysis for each of these technologies. Emerging technologies include advanced materials, future development of the ICT industry, the emergence of blockchain in the animated industry, artificial intelligence and its key applications, the new energy and green industry, quantum technology and its future development, precision medicine and gene-editing technologies. Globalization in the era of Web2.0, particularly amid the proliferation of the ICT technology, tends to favor business strategy in which intelligent information drives business processes, creating viable business models for profitability. However, the chaotic and uncertain conditions in the 2nd decade of the centur21st century have created unprecedented challenges for firms operating globally. Among other things, there are many major factors forever change the business operations, namely, breakdown of global product standards and supply chain, emerging regionalization in lieu of globalization, the rise of emerging markets (BRIC), strategic changes in the IP management, a shift of manufacturing-led Industry development to service-oriented operation. Not only do these factors may render Taiwanese’s traditional OEM strategy obsolete, they have also created a situation where information-driven strategic innovation becomes an indispensible part of all businesses. This, in turns, requires firms to develop a timely database of business intelligence, and thorough, innovative, and comprehensive modeling techniques as a basis for their innovation strategies.
