本課程之設計在於訓練學生的批判思考、學術寫作以及進行研究的能力,以便協助學生撰寫學期報告或是博碩士論文的提案。 透過一系列的課堂作業以及工作坊,我們將帶領學生熟悉圖書館資源,收集資料,建立書目,撰寫大綱,論文主旨,文獻回顧,研究背景,到最後的論文發表或是提案發表。課堂工作坊的討論,部分將以小組進行,部分將共同討論。 學生可以選擇以同學期正在進行的期末報告,作為本堂課的階段性作業,或是選擇試寫論文提案。儘早開始論文提案的學生,能夠提早開始研究計畫的資料收集以及修課規劃,以便提早完成論文。 除了課堂作業之外,我們也將邀請4~5次的演講,以便學生觀摩學習其他研究者的研究問題意識,研究方法,概念架構,以及論證方式。 本課程為必修課,3學分。 Course Objectives This course is designed to develop students’ critical thinking, scholarly writing skills, and research abilities for their on-going project or their thesis proposals. The assignments of this course will lead students to go through the process from drafting proposal outline, thesis statement, note taking, annotated bibliography, literature review, research background, introduction, project summary, to the final paper. The classroom meetings will provide workshop opportunities for group discussions and peer critiques. Students can choose to develop a thesis proposal in place of a term paper in order to engage with his or her research project in the early stages and to identify relevant courses while completing degree requirements in the coming semesters. In addition to the classroom discussions and assignments, we will invite 4-5 scholars to give lectures so that students can learn from their problematics, research questions, methodology, conceptual frameworks, and modes of argumentations. This course is a required course, 3 credits.
