Freshman English II is an integrated 4-skill (listening, speaking, reading, & writing) language curriculum with a focus on reading and writing. This course will address reading and paragraph writing while supporting the communicative skills addressed in the first semester. In this course, students will: 1. Develop critical reading skills, 2. Engage in reflection on readings, 3. Apply insights gained from readings, 4. Orally paraphrase and summarize texts, and reflect on the texts in oral discussion, 5. Write complete paragraphs with topic sentences, relevant supporting details, transition words, and concluding sentences, 6. Continue to develop listening and speaking skills.

(1) Attendance: * Attend classes and participate in class and activities * Late arrivals and unexcused absence for 3 times without prior approval or official reasons will affect your attendance mark. (2) Assignments and Final Project: * Turn in each assignment on time. Scores will be deducted for late assignments. You will be asked to turn in the late assignment within one week. * Finish your group presentation collaboratively with your members. (3) Class Etiquette and Participation: * Turn off your cell phones during class ABSOLUTELY. Each cell phone ringing during class may affect the score in “participation”. * Dozing off or without a book will affect your grade. (4) Others * The details of assignments, group presentation, quizzes will be given in weekly course schedule and E3. * Adjustments may be made in the syllabus to meet students’ needs and course requirements. * Intellectual Property Right: Use only copyrighted textbook in class. * No make-up exams will be given unless there is an official reason with prior approval.
