Freshman English II is an integrated 4-skill (listening, speaking, reading, & writing) language curriculum with a focus on reading and writing. This course will address reading and paragraph writing while supporting the communicative skills addressed in the first semester. In this course, students will: 。Develop critical reading skills, 。Engage in reflection on readings, 。Apply insights gained from readings, 。Orally paraphrase and summarize texts, and reflect on the texts in oral discussion, 。Write complete paragraphs with topic sentences, relevant supporting details, transition words, and concluding sentences, 。Continue to develop listening and speaking skills.

If you do not show up in the first day of class, you will be automatically dropped from the course. (2AB-A508)

** No make-up exams will be given and no late work will be accepted unless there is an official reason with prior approval. ** Tentative Syllabus and grading scheme maybe changed and will be announced either in class or via emails. ** Being absence for 3 times without prior approval or official reasons leads you to fail the class.

(1) Attendance: 10% (2) Midterm exam: 20% (3) Final exam: 20% (4) Required writing assignments: 10% (2 paragraph assignments, a minimum of 200 words each) (5) GEPT related works: 15%, including one in-class practice test and four online practice tests (10%) and self-study stamps on VOD passport (5%) (6) Group / Individual Presentation: 10% For the final group oral project, students in groups of 4 need to choose one of the units covered in the class from the textbook and present their responses. Details will be given on E3. (7) In-class Activities and quizzes: 15%
