進階英文聽力與討論

This course aims to advance students’ listening and speaking skills. Students will further develop listening skills (e.g., identifying main ideas, details, making inferences, and note-taking) through less simplified and authentic listening materials. Students will also develop discussion skills through a variety of interactive activities. By the end of the course, students will learn to: 1. comprehend listening materials which cover more specialized or sophisticated topics, 2. identify and analyze points of view, arguments, or implicit information in the listening material , 3. lead and participate in effective group discussions and deliver oral presentations.

Students who wish to take this course must attend the first class.

1. Attendance, in-class discussion, & in-class participation: 20% You’re required to actively participate in weekly in-class discussion. Please finish the assigned tasks (see course schedule distributed by the teacher in week 1) before you come to the class. Your in-class participation will be evaluated. Attendance will be taken in the beginning of every class so please be on time. Two points will be deducted from your final grade for each unexcused absence. A valid proof is required for excused absences (e.g., being sick or attending conferences). Absence from class cannot be an excuse for missing important announcements or late assignments. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you have missed (e.g., check E3 or get notes & handouts from peers). 2. Midterm & Final Exams 40% There will be an in-class midterm and an in-class final exam. If you need to reschedule an exam date, you need to present a valid proof and inform me at least one week in advance. Otherwise, no make-up exams will be given. 3. Mini research project presentations 25% You will work on the project in a group of 3 students. There will be two presentations throughout the semester. Please see course handout on E3 for more details. 4. Extensive listening logs 15% You will engage in out-of-class extensive listening activities throughout the semester. Details will be given in class.
