Organic Chemistry (I)
The course is an introduction to organic chemistry, focusing primarily on the basic principles of the chemical bonding, structure, physical, and chemical properties of organic molecules. The course is divided into two modules: Module 1 covers the topics on: Remembering General Chemistry Electronic Structure and Bonding (chapter 1) Acids and Bases Central to Understanding Organic Chemistry (chapter 2) An Introduction to Organic Compounds Nomenclature, Physical Properties, and Structure (chapter 3) Arrangement of atoms in space (chapter 4) Alkenes - Structure, Nomenclature, and an Introduction to Reactivity, Thermodynamics and Kinetics (chapter 5) Module 2 covers the topics on: The Reactions of Alkenes The Stereochemistry of Addition Reactions (chapter 6) The Reactions of Alkynes An Introduction to Multistep Synthesis (chapter 7) Delocalized Electrons - Their Effect on Stability, pKa, and the Products of a Reaction & Aromaticity and Electronic Effects - An Introduction to the Reactions of Benzene (chapter 8) Substitution and Elimination Reactions (chapters 9 and 10) Reactions of alcohols, ethers, epoxides, and amines (chapter 10) 試讀:https://youtu.be/zofTuXnO2Vc
Classes are given in English. Students should have English listening and writing ability.
Students take the module 1 or module 2 examination for the first time would get 100% full score. Students who retake the module 1 or module 2 examination, would only get 80% full score.
Students should solve the problems followed by each book chapter. Examination for module 1 will be held on Nov-23-2019 (Saturday) and Feb-8-2020 (Saturday). Examination for module 2 will be held on Nov-23-2019 (Saturday) and Feb-8-2020 (Saturday).
