This course presents the fundamentals of analog transmission systems. We will compare a number of linear and nonlinear techniques for modulating continuous waveforms in terms of bandwidth requirements, complexity of modulators and demodulators, and robustness to additive channel noise. An introduction to digital communications, including signal-space analysis and passband digital transmission techniques, will be given.
