This course introduces all the building blocks for operating public transit agencies in terms of transportation engineering, transportation economics, public finance, and public policy.

There are two types of work you will do during the semester: news briefing, and a term project. Students are encouraged to work with others in the class. The maximum group size is 3. News briefing (15 minutes at the start of every class on Friday): Each team is expected to brief the class news/recent issues on public transit about 1 to 2 times throughout the semester. Term project: Each team needs to choose one public transport system to introduce to the class. The term project needs to cover following components: reason of selection, basic profile of the project topic, operation characteristics, advantage/disadvantage or comparison to other modes and comments. Each team has to choose a public transport system and get the approval of the instructor no later than Week 6. Each team needs to do in class presentation.
1. Homework and Assignments: News briefing: 20%; Term project: 40%; Class participation: 10% (students are encouraged to ask and answer questions, contribute information, and express their views on subject matter). 2. Exams and Quizzes: Midterm exam: 30%.
