Millimeter- Wave (MMW) circuits are commonly used in wireless communications including cellular backhaul. In addition, auto collision avoidance to satellite payload have been beneficiary of MMW Circuits. Impetus for the design and development of MMW Circuit has been the bandwidth limitations and data transmission overload at RF/microwave frequencies. AS a result 5G system is expected to operate above 20 GHz This course will bridge the gap between theoretical learning and hands on design. Course will cover briefly refresher on devices, RF/ Microwave fundamentals followed by advances in MMW Circuit design and analysis techniques. The course will offer theory and hands on design of MMW active and passive circuits including, LNA, PA, VCO, Mixer, filters, power combining, package and on-chip antenna design etc. It will cover MMW heterogeneous integration and Transceiver design and their applications. Based on funding availability, circuits may be built and tested for hands on experience. Focus will be on 28, 38, and 60 GHz frequencies which are expected to be selected for 5G applications.
Basic III-V Device Principles RF Microwave Fundamentals such as EM theory, S- Parameters, Smith Chart, Transmission lines, passive circuits, linear and non- linear analysis etc.
Lecture notes will be provided by TA's.
