The goal of this course is to introduce our students to the basic properties of elliptic, parabolic, and hyperbolic partial differential equations. The typical examples which we will discuss are solutions to the Laplace equation, the Poission equation, heat equation and the wave equation. Also, we will also introduce the framework of weak derivatives and the theory of Sobolev spaces, which are important in any further studies of nonlinear partial differential equations.
A student taking this course should have solid trainings in undergraduate analysis, linear algebra, as well as vector calculus.
