秀麗隱桿線蟲 (C. elegans)在現代生物學的研究上成果斐然,近15年來已有3次諾貝爾獎頒發給線蟲研究成果。在生物醫學遺傳疾病研究領域上,線蟲已成為一個主要模式生物物種。本課程內容將從線蟲發展史提供背景知識,引領大學學生從遺傳學、發育學、分子生物學和神經科學等研究論文導讀,並介紹如何運用線蟲的強大基因篩選方式來研究人類疾病機制,目的在於提供新的治療策略觀念。同時在課程中,讓修課學生到實驗室觀察課程中所介紹的線蟲性狀和親自體驗線蟲實驗操作方法。 In recent year, C. elegans has become a major model system to study fundamental biomedical issues since three nematode research projects were awarded by the Nobel Prizes. This course will focus on three parts: (1) providing background information on the history of nematode studies; (2) leading the students to conduct research papers on genetics, development and neuroscience; (3) introducing new approaches in studying human disease mechanisms by using nematode powerful gene screening methods. Also, students can go to the laboratory to study and manipulation the nematode traits and experiments.
