The first part of this course aims to teach students 1. how to utilize various important biological databases without resorting to computer programming. Together with the advancement of biotechnology, lots of biological databases, including NCBI, Ensembl, UCSC genome browser, GEO, KEGG, miRbase, PDB, TCGA, 1000 Genomes, etc. Among these databases, many of them also come build-in with advanced search or analysis tools. Familiarity with those databases and properly using them will greatly benefit and ease one’s research career. The second part of this course will teach students how to build a database with python & Flask. * Several useful data processing skills built into Excel will also be included in this course.
