情感性遭遇:影像,時間,感覺

本課討論的焦點為情感的影像與文化研究. 我們會討論的理論和影像文本包括了當代電影與動態影像理論(電影、電視、錄像、數位影像和virtual reality等)、酷兒理論、與情感的文化研究,並讓這幾個領域的概念交互碰撞與開展。 修課的同學在期末可以選擇書寫期末小論文,亦可將在本課所習得之思維與概念,以影像論述或藝術論述的方式呈現。 This course deals with the question of "affect" and how it is discussed in contemporary film and moving image theory, queer theory, and cultural studies. This course is both a theory course and a cinema studies course. We will read theoretical texts and sometime watch film or video texts. Students who take this course are encouraged to think about how one may analyze films and visual arts through theory, and/or problematize theory through film and art texts. *Students who take this course should write a term paper as their final projects. Those who have a background in art-making, however, may produce an artistic discourse for their work of art or even make an essay film, provided they discuss their projects with course instructor in advance.

Course Requirements: This is a graduate seminar—which means that students are expected to be active participants of the class (no passive consumers, please.) 1. In-class presentation and discussion: 20% Each week, students should take turns to present their reading of weekly assigned materials. Those who are not presenting should also read the materials in advance. * Those who are absent for more than 3 times without a good reason will get a “zero” grade for this item. 2. Mid-term analytical essay: 20% Students will have to write an analytical essay of a course reading (that is, a theoretical text.) Length: 2,500 words in minimum; 2,000 words if written in English. For students of the undergraduate level: 2,000 words (in Chinese) or 1,500 words (in English). 3. Final presentation: 20% Each student will present a talk on their final project at the end of the semester. 4. Term paper: 40 % Each student should write a term paper. (Length: 20-25pages). Please use the theories we learn in class to analyze film, moving-image, or any art texts of your selection. You may also use films, moving-image works, or other forms of artwork to complicate or problematize theory. *Students who take this course should write a term paper as their final projects. Those who have a background in art-making may produce an artistic discourse for their work of art or even make an essay film, provided they discuss with the course instructor in advance. 5. No auditors., please. 本課以研究所討論課(seminar)形式進行。同學必須是課堂上的主動參與者,而不是被動的消費者。因此除了書面報告與期末作業,主動參與課堂討論亦是學生學習與教師評量的重點。 1. 課堂口頭報告及討論:20% 修課同學必須輪流在課堂上做口頭報告。報告內容為當週閱讀之文獻。 沒有報告的同學亦應讀完課堂要求閱讀之文獻,並參與討論(包含在Slack電子黑板討論與書寫筆記)。 *無故缺席3次以上者,本項零分。 2. 期中書面作業:20% 修課同學選定一個或兩個上課討論過的理論文本,做理論分析。約2500字或以上(字數不包含註釋)。(大學部同學約1500-2000字即可) 3. 期末口頭報告:20% 報告內容為同學自己想要做的期末作業題目,報告人說明想要選擇的影像文本為何、想要以何角度與理論來分析等。沒有報告的同學則提供回應與建議。 4. 期末書面報告:40% 同學自行選取一至數個影像文本,以本堂課所討論之理論做影像分析。亦可反向思考,由影像文本出發,思索所讀理論文本之適用性與侷限。 論文篇幅:研究生論文7000字以上,大學部同學約4000字。 修課的同學在期末可選擇書寫論文,亦可將在本課所習得之思維與概念,以影像論述或藝術作品論述的方式呈現(需先徵得授課教師同意)。
