英文作文(二)

This is the second segment of a year-long writing course for the freshman in our department. We will continue the essential practice for essay writing skills including brainstorming, drafting, editing and revising. As the writing skill does not improve alone without the support of other English skill, we will review TED talks regularly through which students could build balanced English skills (vocabulary, listening & speaking) and enjoy synergic effects from the advancement of other aspects of English. Practice is the only way to improve one’s writing skills; you will write many short essays throughout the semester. The best way of learning is to teach others; you will work closely with your peers through sharing ideas and thoughts and providing your critical reviews of their writing.

English Composition I

• Attendance: 5% (1% deduction for each absence) • Class participation and peer-editing: 12% (2% per each topic * 6 topics) • Writing assignments: 36% (9% per each topic * 4 topics) • TED Vocab review: 20% (2% per each talk * 10 talks) • Midterm in-class writing: 12% • Final in-class writing: 15%
