概述

This course will serve as a building block for your own project at the end of the course and for your future development. We will cover web basics such as HTML, CSS, the Document Object Model, JavaScript. You will learn how to use CSS preprocessors, grid systems, JavaScript frameworks. We will also teach you tools on how to make your website as a channel to show your creativity and artistic expression with a design thinking process that will make impact to the world. You will work in teams to design, implement and deploy a full-featured web application. The class sessions are consisted of instructions and lab. The teaching staff will be there and will circulate. You can confer with other students and the instructors during the lab. Programming is the art and craft of us telling the machine what we want to do, and how we want it to behave. We will be using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to make our content dynamic and interactive. You need to practice programming to feel comfortable doing it, but you can make beautiful and interesting things with just the basics that we will be learning about in this course. By the end of this course, you will be making things with the real-world core components that give the web its potential for your own project, but it is just the beginning. What is more important is that you will understand what you have to learn more about to accomplish your objectives, be able to recognize things and be able to evaluate their value to you, and have a command of the terminology you need to search for and discuss your needs and interests with the huge community of people on the internet with experience (and code chunks) to share.

先修科目

Equipment Hardware: You will need two equipment for this course: 1) Personal computer 2) An android or iPhone to test some of your results on the smart phone. Software: • Sublime text editor • Chrome browser You can use other browsers or text editor, but the instructor will be using these two for course demonstrations. These are commonly used by developers and are free.

Assignments There will be ten assignments in this course. Each class will be instructions, following a lab time to do small exercises. Lab time is also a great time to work on assignments, and you may be able to finish the assignment in the lab but don't count on it. The assignments are typically discussed in the class and we like some time to review your submissions. For this reason, late assignments will receive a zero. You can submit late assignments to get feedback, but no points will be given for an assignment that is turned in after the deadline, unless you have made prior arrangements. If you do not have a lot of programming experience, some concepts may take some time to sink in. Do not worry too much if you feel like you are in a fog at times. The assignments are the best way to track your Usually the biggest problem students encounter in the course is trying to do everything in a few hours right before an assignment is due or right before a deadline. If you only think about the course a few hours each week, you will get some of the details, but they will not mesh together to provide the big picture. Programming is easy once you get the big picture. The book will become an easily scanned reference for you once you know what to look for and why you are looking for it. Cramming does not work well when dealing with the material in this course. This is because the material in the course is actually fairly straightforward once you "get it" — once you understand some basic principles. No amount of memorization will make up for not having the big picture. Try not to get stuck on any one thing; it is all easy once you "get it." If you do get stuck on something and feel like you are going in circles, ask for help, look at something else, or come at the problem from a different direction. Remember that exam is open notes, and open book for the practical portion. Midterm presentation You need to communicate your idea clearly on why you are choosing the theme, how important it is, why is it timely to do so, and the plan to execution. Final project and teamwork The website needs to be working smoothly and cleanly designed. It should be clear about its goal and well functioned. Team members will work interdependently with each other while contributing equally to the project. You should also make the website available to the public and share your code on Github. This is to form a habit of contributing back to the internet. Participation You will need to respect each other and engage in the classroom. More details are in the classroom rulesession. Plagiarism We learn by doing our own work, and by collaborating with other students. Discussing course content and assignments with your peers is an important and helpful way to deepen your learning. However, encouraging others to copy your homework and submit it as their own is a form of cheating.
