The course is to bring information about recent advances in our understanding of how bacteria cause disease on the molecular basis. Topics include host defenses, virulence factors that promote colonization or damage the host, regulation of virulence genes, approaches to study the host-bacterium interaction, vaccines and antibiotics, NGS and functional genomics. Moreover, current developments of alternative drug targets and rapid diagnosis approaches will be discussed.
