概述

本課程出發點認為任何偉大思想都必須被接受才具有其影響力,任何偉大作品都要透過閱讀後才能成為經典,任何意識型態也是要透過被閱讀接受才會有其支配力。因此作品或意識型態如何被閱讀和接受的社會過程成為最閱鍵的文化研究課題。但是如何進行作品閱讀與接受的(文化)研究?正是本課程的主旨。我們將從接受理論(Reception theories)出發,探討它們帶來什麼理論洞見及限制?其次再借鏡閱讀史的研究,呈現閱讀活動需突破諸多條件限制才具備現代閱讀模式,以及不同社會群體可能的閱讀動機與狀況,還有特定情境下的形成的閱讀實踐如十九世紀英國的鐵道閱讀或中國的文人閱讀等。最後,本課程將檢閱幾個研究當代閱讀的研究範例,從渡假消暑的閱讀(Summer reading)到為社會進升的閱讀(reading up)、從冷戰意識型到《讀者文摘》的閱讀如何形塑美國認同等精采議題。希望能開拓同學們想像研究主題的靈感!

評分方式

評量方式:出席與討論40%+期末報告(約八千到一萬字)60%。報告主題三選一A.台灣閱讀經驗調查:請閱讀某一個人的作品或文集,記錄他(她)的閱讀經驗或閱讀筆記;B.針對某一個作品,尋訪3-5個其讀者後進行實際訪談,撰寫成報告;C運用上課所學的其他主題報告。
