This course is designed to guide students to become independent academic writers. By reading and analyzing research articles or theses in applied linguistics, students will explore (1) the organization of a thesis, (2) the relevant content presented in different sections of a thesis, and (3) linguistic and presentational features of academic writing. Students will also write up a research paper of their own. Through guided peer-review and revision processes, students will learn to critically examine one’s and others’ writing.
1. Attendance and participation: 15% 2. Portfolio (including all written assignments for the semester): 60% 3. Presentations: 25%
