Freshman English II is an integrated 4-skill (listening, speaking, reading, & writing) language curriculum with a focus on reading and writing. This course will address reading and paragraph writing while supporting the communicative skills addressed in the first semester. In this course, students will: (1) Develop critical reading skills (2) Engage in reflection on readings (3) Apply insights gained from readings (4) Orally paraphrase and summarize texts, and reflect on the texts in oral discussion (5) Write complete paragraphs with topic sentences, relevant supporting details, transition words, and concluding sentences (6) Continue to develop listening and speaking skills
1. Participation is required in any English class. Silent and inactive sit-ins, sleeping, or using cell phones in class will make your participation credits suffer or not to be granted. (*No free points for ‘participation’) 2. Various activities require students’ participation, and so regular attendance is very important. Absence up to six hours will make your semester grade suffer. Absence may be authorized under exceptional circumstances, if a proof of justifiable reason can be provided. 3. Always bring the textbook, A4 loose-leaf paper or paper notebook, to keep your learning record. 4. "Attendance Policy", "Assignment submission Policy" & "Participation Rule": please refer to New e3 for more details.
(1) Attendance and oral participation: 10% (2) Midterm and final exams: 40% (3) Required writing assignment: 10% (2 paragraph assignments, a minimum of 200 words each) (4) Language enhancement activities: 15% (including GEPT online learning, in-class tests and self-study stamps on VOD passport ) (5) In-class activities/assignments 10% (6) Small talks (or presentations) 15%
