Freshman English II is an integrated 4-skill (listening, speaking, reading, & writing) language curriculum with a focus on reading and writing. This course will address reading and paragraph writing while supporting the communicative skills addressed in the first semester. In this course, students will: -Develop critical reading skills, -Engage in reflection on readings, -Apply insights gained from readings, -Orally paraphrase and summarize texts, and reflect on the texts in oral discussion, -Write complete paragraphs with topic sentences, relevant supporting details, transition words, and concluding sentences, -Continue to develop listening and speaking skills.
a) Attendance: two points will be deducted for one absence for no reason, one for a leave for personal affairs, and no point deduction for school with a proof. Due to COVID-19, your attendance will be checked every class, but no deduction will be made due to your sick leave. Please report your sickness to school or teacher as soon as possible if you feel ill or have a fever. b) Midterm and final exams will cover sections of Vocabulary (World Class units and supplementary readings), Grammar, Listening, and Reading. c) In-class performance: This semester, we will try to reduce group or pair activities as possible under the impact of COVID-19. Students will be expected to focus on more individual work. d) Writing assignments: 1) 2 paragraph writings, a minimum of 200 words each; 2) Choose the topics from the textbook units. Consult the Writing sections, follow the directions and write 2 passages for each assignment. Writing evaluation form will be introduced in the first class. 3) 1st writing is a take-home assignment, due on Week # 10, May 6. Please type your writing before submission. 4) 2nd writing will be done in class on Week #16, June 17.
