Course Objectives Advanced Listening & Discussion is an integrated 4-skill (listening, speaking, reading, & writing) language curriculum with a focus on listening and speaking. This course will address listening and speaking skills. In this course, students will: Develop their abilities in active listening and good speaking skills(i.e. “speak well with topic sentences, relevant supporting details, transition words, and concluding sentences), Apply insights gained from readings, Orally paraphrase and summarize texts, and reflect on the texts in oral discussion, Develop critical thinking skills, Engage in reflection on listening passages, Continue to develop listening and speaking skills.

Advanced Listening & Discussion is an integrated 4-skill (listening, speaking, reading, & writing) language curriculum with a focus on listening and speaking skills. In this course, you are invited to be “Masters” not “Guests”. It means this course is student-centered. Preparation: You are required to read the textbook material before class. □ Participation: Active participation in classroom discussions and activities is essential to advance your English skills. □ Assignments & Tests: No late work will be accepted and no make-up tests will be given unless it is for an official reason with prior approval. □ Attendance: If you are absent, it is your responsibility to learn what was done in class that day. Every absence will lower your attendance grade by 2 points (final score), and being late reduces it by 0.5 point (final score). More than 3 unexcused absences may cause you to fail the course. □ Group Project: Students will be split into 4-5 groups, with each group being assigned one of the topics from the “Engage” activities at the end of each unit. Projects will be presented during weeks 14-16. Group members should work together to present a general summary of the topic and share current information with the class.
