The aim of this course is to enhance students' critical English reading abilities and develop students' ability to write well-developed academic writing. Students will read a variety of texts styles with enhanced fluency following coherent and effective use of reading strategies. Students will also actively engage in extensive reading with different topics (e.g., environmental studies, education, sociology, technology, health, behavioral science, economics, and global studies). For writing, students will build their writing skills and eventually learn to the ability to write various five-paragraph academic essays in terms of comparison and contrast, cause and effect, summary, and argumentative.
修畢英文基礎課程或具備等同CEFR B1(含以上)英語文能力。本課程著重閱讀策略之訓練及撰寫不同學術英文文體之文章,無法確實參與課程訓練及要求自己準時完成文章者,請勿選修!! 備註1:選課系統上之正選生若第一次上課未出席也未事先完成缺課請假程序,將視同放棄修課權利,名額將直接由候補者遞補。 備註2:第一堂課未出席的非正選生,若自行於系統加選會由教師退選! 有特殊狀況請於加退選截止前來信告知。 備註3:欲加簽本課程的同學,請務必出席第一次上課方能取得候補資格,若有特殊狀況(例如疫情影響無法到班)也請來信告知。
(1) Attendance: * Attend classes and participate in class and activities * Late arrivals and unexcused absence for 3 times without prior approval or official reasons will affect your attendance mark. (2) Participation: * You are required to read assigned material (e.g. textbook, handout, website articles) before coming to class. * Active participation in classroom discussion and activities is also expected. (2) Assignments: * Turn in each writing assignment on time. Scores will be deducted for late assignments. You will be asked to turn in the late assignment within one week. (3) Class Etiquette and Participation: * Turn off your cell phones during class ABSOLUTELY. Each cell phone ringing during class may affect the score in “participation”. * Dozing off or without a book will affect your grade. (4) Others * The details of writing assignments, quizzes will be given in weekly course schedule and E3. * Adjustments may be made in the syllabus to meet students' needs and course requirements. * Intellectual Property Right: Use only copyrighted textbook in class. * No make-up exams will be given unless there is an official reason with prior approval.
