The aim of this course is to enhance students' critical English reading abilities and develop students’ ability to write well-developed paragraphs of college writing. Students will read a variety of texts styles with enhanced fluency following coherent and effective use of reading strategies. Students will also actively engage in extensive reading with a critical perspective (e.g., distinguishing between fact and opinion, evaluating sources, and identifying points of view). For writing, students will build their paragraph writing skills and eventually learn to the ability to write a five paragraph essay following logical division of ideas.

教學方式

1. For those who can't come to the classroom due to COVID-19, please contact me via my email as soon as possible. 2. Attendance: One point will be deducted for an absence for no reason, and no point deduction for school with a proof. This semester, your attendance will be checked every class, but no deduction will be made due to your sick leave. Please report your sickness as soon as possible if you feel ill or have a fever. 3. Writing assignments: There will be two take-home assignments and the submission dates are 4/15 and 5/20. The third writing will be done in class on Week #15 (6/10). Students have to choose topics from Unlock units, follow the instruction, and write three articles. 4. Oral report: Each student will choose one book he or she has read. Then, everyone will give an individual oral report about the book in class. The report should include the summary of the book, the author, its background information, your reflection, or other references. Each report is limited in 5 minutes. At the end of the activity, students will vote for the top 5 most popular book list. The activity will be held on Weeks #16 (6/17). More details will be announced in the first class. 5. It is students’ responsibility to complete “Language Development” after each unit is finished.
