音韻專題:語言接觸現象

This course covers general topics in language contact and sound change. We will start by reviewing the basic acoustic/phonetic properties of speech sounds and move onto topics in sound change. We will review specific cases of sound change including those attestd in Taiwan. While familiarizing students with current theories in sound change, students will have a chance to have firsthand experience with varying experimental paradigms. The instructor will suggest possible topics and provide speech materials for small-scale experiments and students will design & run experiments with hands-on guidance from the course TAs.

Introduction to Linguistics (optional: Phonetics & Phonology) or permission of the instructor
