概述

This course aims at providing students with principles, strategies, and techniques in speaking English effectively and improving their oral communication skills that are transferrable to a variety of settings. Through selected themed-based scenarios and authentic texts, this course intends to help students build a repertoire of effective speaking strategies and practical classroom techniques that are embedded in both language learning and formal presentations. Throughout the semester, students are encouraged to engage in presentations and discussions on a variety of issues in the global context. Upon completing this course, students are expected to acquire confidence, logical thinking and skills needed in public speaking, as well as to improve the organisation, content and delivery of oral presentations in the global learning and working environment. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The course will be conducted through a weekly seminar of two hours, covering topics on interpersonal communication skills and oral presentation. There will not be written midterm and final exams. Instead, your performance will be evaluated through in-class participation and group discussion, individual presentations and occasional online assignments.
