Since the first operation of transistor, semiconductor technology has dominated our daily lives in terms of electronic applications. Though such technology has been considered relatively mature technology, a lot of emerging research activities driven by various new applications are on-going. In this course, we will start with basic review of semiconductor devices and physics with emphasis on the operation principles of the devices. Fundamental characterization of the devices in terms of the DC and RF performance will be covered to get the students familiar with the industrial standard for device evaluation. Special design applications such as low-noise amplifier, power amplifier, switch, and oscillator will be discussed in detail. Finally, system-level applications will be introduced as case studies to have the students understand the operation of the devices in particle systems.
