To present on a firm basis the classical theory of ballistic and diffusive (Drude) transport in electron gas. Phenomena beyond the classical kinetic theory like quantum ballistic transport and mesoscopic phenomena in the presence of disorder like the weak localization, Aharonov – Bohm effect, Quantum Hall effect are introduced. The resistivity due to electron – phonon and the electron – electron interactions are descrived. Theoretical techniques necessary to understand transport, namely Green’s functions, linear response, disorder averaging, are introduced without the use of second quantization or field theory.
