This course provides an introduction on the concepts and mathematics related to the fundamentals of transportation system analysis. It covers the theories and methods underlying the prediction of impacts, principally the representation of transportation systems through performance functions and the prediction of consumer response to the services offered through the demand function. These theories and methods are then applied to analyze and evaluate the performance of the transportation system. After completing the course, students will be able to: (1) gain a basic understanding to the mechanism of transportation system; (2) apply different demand and supply models to analyze different scenarios in the transportation system; (3) critically evaluate the performance of the transportation systems by selecting the most appropriate modelling tools and parameters.
Nil, while Operations Research and Mathematics are critical
Participation - This is a lecture-based course supplemented with both hypothetical and real case examples. Students are also encouraged to discuss the materials in the class. - Students are welcome to raise up problems encountered during lectures, coursework, teaching content, etc. The course may come up with a good ending under continuous and constructive opinions. - Problem sets are available for students to do concept consolidations.
