概述

This course aims to advance students' listening, thinking, discussion, and presentation skills. Students will further develop listening skills (e.g., identifying main ideas, details, making inferences, and note-taking) through less simplified and authentic listening materials. Through the use of engaging lectures and videos presented and through group discussions and presentations, students experience the demands and atmosphere in real-life academic and professional contexts. By the end of the course, students will learn to: 1. comprehend listening materials which cover more specialized or sophisticated topics, 2. identify and analyze points of view, arguments, or implicit information in the listening material, 3. lead and participate in effective group discussions and deliver oral presentations.

Being late for more than twenty minutes is regarded as being absent for that hour. TWO POINTS will be taken off from your final grade for each hour of absence. 3. If you are absent due to uncontrollable situations, such as acute/severe illness, emergency, important occasions, etc., please file your application along with the valid proof on NCTU Students Leave System (http://stuoffcourse.nctu.edu.tw/) within 1 week. The medication receipt with correct stamp of date by accredited hospitals can be seen as a valid proof. The instructor reserves the right to refuse or revoke leave of absence application. If you are absent for more than 3 lessons without advance notice, you will fail the course. (For further information, please refer to http://scahss.sa.nctu.edu.tw/?wpdmpro=%E5%AD%B8%E7%94%9F%E8%AB%8B%E5%81%87%E8%A6%8F%E5%89%87) 4. It is the student’s responsibility to find out what has been covered in the class by checking E3 or getting handouts/notes from the classmates.
